Breffni Vintage Club would like to wish all their members and friends a very happy and healthy new year and safe motoring throughout the year.
The club had their first run of the year on the first day of the year, how much more efficient than that can you get!
With ideal weather conditions a larger than usual group of motor bikes and cars assembled at Trisha’s Mini Market in Milltown Co. Cavan, where everyone was treated to scones and tea or coffee all under the watchful eye of Denis Wright. It was great to see Denis back in full flight after his recent surgery.
At the appointed hour of twelve midday Peter Reilly led the convoy off to Killeshandra, Crossdoney and Ballinagh before returning to Cavan town for more refreshments.
The club is indebted to Trisha’s mini market and Denis Wright for their efforts on our behalf.
This outing was originally for motorbikes but over the years has morphed into a very popular outing open to all vehicles. Congratulations to everybody involved.
The now annual new years day motor cycle run organised by Denis and Anne Wright was organised with the usual efficiency that we have come to expect from them. Denis had a new menu this year which even included boxty so everybody was well fortified for the trip and the weather was passable.
Around eighteen vehicles took part on the usual circuit taking in Killeshandra, Crossdoney, Ballinagh and Cavan. Heads were quickly cleared after the new year celebrations.
A get together at a filling station in Cavan gave a great chance for everybody to have a “natter and a cupa ” Well done to every body concerned as it gets the new year off to a great start.
The club got the year off to a great start by having a new year’s day run organised by Denis Wright. This was traditionally a bike run but due to its popularity it was decided to open it up to all vehicles. So on this occasion we had over thirty bikes, trikes cars and vans.
The day started with a mulled wine (non alcoholic) reception and finger food which went down a treat so much so that it was with difficulty that some drivers were persuaded to return to their vehicles. The club is greatly appreciative of Denis and Anne’s efforts on behalf of the club. The “run” then proceeded via Killeshandra, Ballinagh and back to Cavan town where a stop was made at a cafe for a cupa and a chat before heading home all in beautiful weather. The outing may be viewed on Youtube below thanks to Padraig Gaffney:
We are currently preparing for our auto jumble in Cavan on the 19th of March and then we will concentrate on a full calendar of events for the coming year and we will post the details here when they are finalised.
Our long standing chairman Eugene Markey recently stepped down from his position on health grounds. Eugene was a founding member of our club and has served as chair person for over twenty years, a record not likely to be broken. His expertise and knowledge of history and all things motoring is legendary and we will miss his guiding hand. On the plus side he has left us a legacy of a strong and vibrant club and for that we are grateful and wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he will soon be out and about in his beloved Fords.
At an extra ordinary general meeting on the 30th of January 2017 the following officers were elected:
